With the Vilty Thoughts project nearing it’s end, I thought it fitting to present you all with Geen Einde (No ending). The 11th chapter of our enterprise brings you VT-Alumnus L-Deep, this time with a solo effort telling a tragic story of loss and abandonment. Artwork once more by Jamie Mitchell.

Geen Einde ft. L-Deep:

Geen Einde knows quite a couple of incarnations, since I’ve been working on it off and on since recording it 4 years ago. The beat originally was a laid-back, pretty straight-forward melancholy guitar-and-lalala-singing-loop with some drums and a bass line. We recorded the vocals, and I started building the track, adding more strings and more drama. It grew into this over-the-top melodramatic opus which didn’t work out all that well.

So I started from scratch, chopping up the sample and building a new track. The end result was a bit to much of a J-Dilla-The Love-Movement-era type beat. I love that stuff, but I wanted to do something new. Plus there are far to many Dilla-clones out there all ready, don’t want to add to the pile. So back to the drawing board it was.

I tried some other stuff, made some other versions, but this one (final for now) I made in between going on holiday, a visit to the hospital with my little girl (all’s fine now), and a tragic death in the family. The last two being good grounds to build from for a dramatic song. Not having the time, I ditched my usual studio gear and build the track on my iPhone, with the awesome BeatMaker 2 app. A chopped up loop, more bass, heavier drums. More drive, less melancholy.

The artwork is once again done by the great Jamie Mitchell (he is from Australia). Doing the previous one he made this as well. Corrupting innocent images with the addition of a subtle graphic element, we really liked it. It got quite a few laughs so we decided to use it for #11. Hope you like it too.
